What clothes to wear for the practice of SUP Yoga?

Would you like to take your yoga practice from the mat to the paddle board? For this occasion, you will need to dress appropriately.

Would you like to take your yoga practice from the mat to the paddle board? For this occasion, you will need to dress appropriately. Fortunately, you can benefit from our experience when it comes to determining what clothes to wear for the practice of SUP Yoga.

Stand-up paddleboard yoga can be practiced in any clothing that is comfortable for you. SUP yoga clothes are not specialized and there is no need to buy any special SUP yoga clothing.

Whatever you decide to wear, just know that you might get wet from sweating, exertion, or falling in the water, so please plan accordingly.

However, It also depends on where in the world you are, practicing in winter will be practically impossible, but we leave you some information in case you live in a country or city where you are lucky enough to be able to enjoy the water throughout the year despite the cold.

Make sure you challenge yourself to improve your balance and strength in your core. Focus on finding peace in nature and developing your focus. Practicing paddle board yoga goes much deeper than looking cool doing downward dog on the water.

It is important to have the appropriate equipment to make the most of your yoga session on the water.

This guide will discuss the best clothing to wear based on the climate in which you practice, as well as how to feel comfortable during the practice session.

Summer:

Whenever I think of SUP yoga, the first thing that comes to mind is a summer morning with cool temperatures and a gentle breeze. The truth is that SUP yoga is a practice that can be done no matter what kind of weather is outside.

It is just a matter of dressing appropriately for the occasion. If you are going to do SUP yoga on a hot day, you have to also consider the effects of humidity and the sun on your skin when deciding what clothes to wear.

Any comfortable swimsuit is perfect for summer practice! Ideally, it doesn’t have sequins, big buttons, zippers or anything that you can get stuck in when you stretch out on the board, so ideally it doesn’t have very strong rubber bands that squeeze or things that you can get stuck in.

If you don’t feel like going in panties and feeling free and safe in all movements or not losing your swimsuit if you fall into the water, it is always a good option to wear shorts for practice.

The simple solution to combating heat may be to wear a bathing suit rather than a yoga top and pants combination. I suggest you choose a lighter tone of pants or capris if you are going to wear pants or capris so that the sun’s rays will reflect off them.

The darker the tone, the better the heat will be retained and the less comfortable you will be. If you live in a humid area, you need to wear clothing that wicks moisture away from your skin.

Although they cost a bit more than heavier materials, such as cotton, they do a much better job of removing moisture from your body and allowing it to evaporate even faster than heavier materials, such as cotton. Sometimes, however, the humidity is so high that no matter what you wear, you will remain soaked.

Also, to protect yourself from the sun, we recommend using a Lycra that has sun protection and is always a good solution for very intense sunny days and to ensure the health of your skin if you spend long hours in the sun.

There are also body rash guard swimsuits that are a very good option to be comfortable and protected from the sun.

Adding rash guards to your bathing suit or swimwear can be a wonderful addition as the rash guard can act almost as a waterproof athletic shirt over your swimsuit or swimwear while also protecting your upper body from the sun.

SUP yoga practitioners love wearing rash guards for comfort and protection. A good cap or hat will never be less to protect your head!

Autumn:

It starts to get cold but it’s not that cold either so we recommend you do the practice only with long leggings, always made of synthetic fabric, not cotton (basically because if you get wet they’ll dry faster and you won’t weigh 7 kilos more XD) and a lycra to cover your torso.

Winter:

Many of us do not have the privilege of living in an area where there is endless sunshine right outside our windows. In the cold weather, SUP yoga can be one of the most challenging activities.

There is not only a risk of falling into freezing water during your workout but there is also a risk of becoming seriously injured if you fall into it. Nevertheless, you should not allow that to prevent you from getting out on the water and taking advantage of the experience.

When you paddle out on a cold day, there can be something quite special about the whole experience, so it seems like a no-brainer to incorporate paddle board yoga on calm waters as well.

As a SUP yoga practitioner, it is important that you adapt what you wear to the weather to feel comfortable in the cold weather.

It depends on your adaptation to the cold, perhaps with leggings, a lyra, and adding some booties for your feet, you have more than enough, but if you are more of a cold, I recommend neoprene.

Depending on your needs, you will be able to choose from many different kinds of wet suits. A variety of materials and thicknesses are available (ranging from 0.5mm to 7mm).

Depending on the thickness of the material, the suit’s flexibility will vary, but the thicker the material, the warmer the suit will be.

Since wetsuits come in various thicknesses and designs, you should choose one that is suitable for the temperature, but also elastic enough to allow you to move freely.

Depending on where you live, one thickness will suit you better than another, but it can be 3/2 – 4/3… Of course, the most important thing about neoprene is its elasticity, and if it is not elastic, use one or 2 sizes larger big because otherwise, you won’t be able to move. If you get hot during class you can always lower the top.

(show an elastic neoprene and a non-elastic one)

There are also wetsuits with only pants or only jackets that also seem to me a perfect and practical option for practicing SUP Yoga. Oh! And the booties, if you have cold feet, don’t forget them!

In the event that you fall in the water while wearing a wetsuit, you will remain relatively warm and safe. After you exit the water, you will quickly cool off, especially if it is windy.

If you wish to change and become warm quickly, be sure to carry a towel and a spare outfit along with you.

Spring:

I would recommend the same as in autumn, the heat starts but the cold continues, depending on where you live the change will be faster or slower, so some leggings and lycra, only lycra or a full neoprene is the option for this time.
